About Altos Hornos de Mexico

Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA) was established in 1942 in response to a steel materials shortage during World War II. Initiated by both private businessmen and the Mexican government, an integrated steel mill was constructed in Monclova, Coahuila, due to its proximity to essential coal and iron ore deposits. This venture was to assure Mexico’s steel supply for its developmental needs. AHMSA’s formation was a collaborative effort, leveraging both state and private capital, with initial equipment acquisitions from the USA, marking the onset of its journey in the steel industry1.
