Liberty Steel owner & founder of GFG Aliance Mr Sanjeev Gupta in an article in Yorkshire Post said that desire from British industry to use basic materials made in Britain will be a lasting legacy of the pandemic.

He said “The Covid-19 crisis will lead to national infrastructure projects being used as a means of stimulating the economy and increase demand for British-made materials and that includes foundation materials such as steel, in turn creating jobs in regions such as Yorkshire.”

He told “National infrastructure projects, too, are likely to go ahead because of the need for economic stimulus as the UK recovers from COVID-19 and that will require an uptick in production of basic metals.

So the outlook for steel is actually not quite as gloomy as some are suggesting, in spite of short-term liquidity challenges facing the industry.”
