A Newcastle-headquartered historic metals importer has upped its turnover and pre-tax profit with the company now eyeing further expansion.

Holme Dodsworth Metals supplies a range of non-ferrous metal products to the manufacturing and repair industries, employing more than 100 staff from warehouses in Newcastle, Manchester, Rotherham, Walsall, Luton, Plymouth and Reading.

Group turnover for the year ended 30 April 2019 increased to £23.7m, up from £22m in 2018 and an increase of 7.6 per cent. This is despite a general fluctuation in metal prices.

The company has said that this was supported by the implementation of a new stock control system, which has helped the firm avoid excess stock being held at location.

Pre-tax profit climbed by 26.9 per cent to £2.1m, up from £1.6m in the previous year.

During the year, the firm opened new branches in Reading and Bristol, with the company aiming to continue the expansion of its south of England operations.

A strategic report included with the results said: “The directors are satisfied with the result for the year under difficult trading conditions.”
