NLMK Lipetsk, NLMK Group’s flagship production site, has developed an innovative electrical (NGO) steel grade for the production of high-tech equipment for wind power plants.
The first batch has been shipped to NovaWind, Rosatom’s wind power division, which is implementing a project to set up wind farms in the south of Russia.
NovaWind plans to build wind farms with a total capacity of 1 GW by 2023. To achieve this ambitious goal, the company needed domestically manufactured electrical steel with improved properties to be used in the production of electric generator engines, the core of wind power
plants.
Ilya Guschin, NLMK Group VP, Sales, said: “NLMK possesses all the competencies required to develop and manufacture innovative grades of electrical steel. We are excited to be part of an ambitious green energy project.”
The development of new steel grades for wind power generation bolsters NLMK Group’s position as a supplier to the renewable energy sector in Russia and worldwide. The new product enables NLMK Group, which includes NLMK DanSteel, plate supplier to the European wind power
generation sector, to expand its offering in this segment.
