According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey totally exported over 2 million tons of hot-rolled coil (HRC) from January to August, falling by 15% from the same period last year.

During the period, Turkey exported around 1.4 million tons of HRC to the European Union (EU). Based on the new quota restrictions, Turkish steel mills could only export 1.37 million tons of HRC to the EU from July 2020 to July 2021, which caused lots of pressures on Turkish steel mills.

However, in the first eight months of 2020, Turkey tried to divert its export markets from the EU and the US to China and South Africa.

According to statistics from January to August, Turkey exported roughly 340,000 tons of HRC to Egypt, 50,000 tons to China, and 40,000 tons to South Africa.
